Here’s some great ideas for random acts of kindness, curtesy of Revolution Martial Arts and Fitness founder Paul Castango, a fellow UBBT member who inspired me to start this project. Go to the bottom of this page to see how you can participate.
- Leave money at a vending machine.
- Bake a treat for the elderly
- Serve at a homeless shelter
- Run a 5k for a good cause
- Let someone go in front of you in line
- Pick up litter around a beach/park/trail
- Give a stranger a compliment
- Make dinner for a family in need
- Pay someone’s expired parking meter
- Buy flowers to hand out on the street
- Leave a positive letter for someone to find
- Buy a movie ticket for someone
- Pay for someone’s meal at a restaurant
- Write letters to soldiers
- Donate holiday gifts to charities
- Hold the door open for someone
- Thank a teacher with a gift
- Walk a neighbor’s dog
- Baby sit for free.
- Plant a tree
- Do a favor for someone without asking for anything in return
- Prepare a meal for your family
- Help someone with their groceries
- Give someone a gift card
- Plan a surprise for someone
- Leave your server a generous tip
- Make a family member breakfast in bed
- Bring a special snack to school/work for a friend
- Write a spontaneous thank you card
- Do a sibling’s chores without them asking
- Help someone with a flat tire
- Ask someone at school to join your group
- Write a list of things that you appreciate about someone and give it to them
- Help a neighbor with yard work
- Pay for someone’s morning coffee
- Make hot chocolate for your family on a cold day
- Or set up a hot chocolate stand!
- Help someone with their school work
- Pay for a classmate’s lunch
- Take the time to listen to someone
- Recycle things you see on the road
- Volunteer at an animal shelter
- Grow your hair long and donate it.
- Wash a neighbor’s dog or car for free
- Hide money in a random place for someone to find
- Let someone watch their favorite show
- Read to a sibling
- Help clean up someone else’s mess
- Write kind words on the sidewalk for people to see
- Give someone you care for a hug
- Share with your sibling or a friend
- Make a new friend at school or work
- Say “Thank you!” when you see service members
- Take a treat to a fire or police station
- Donate to Toys for Tots or any local collection
- Film a thank you message for someone
- Donate old water bottles to a homeless shelter
- Return someone’s cart at a store
- Pay someone’s toll
- Teach someone something new
- Donate food to a food pantry
- Smile at people whenever possible (its contagious!)
- Tell your principal how great your teacher is
- Bring in treats for everyone at work.
- Tell your boss how great your coworkers are
- Teach someone something new
- Tell a manager how great your service was
- Shovel someone’s driveway when it snows
- Write a poem for a friend
- Have a “tech free day” and connect with your family
- Genuinely forgive someone who had hurt you
- Make a music playlist for someone with their favorite music
- Visit a nursing home
- Help an elderly neighbor take out the trash
- Donate warm coat/mittens to charity (or any other appropriate survival items if you are from a warm climate!)
- Drop off cat/dog food at an animal shelter
- Encourage someone who is feeling down
- Do all the dishes after dinner
- Call a friend/family member you haven’t talked to in a while
- Help someone struggling with heavy bags
- Email or call an old teacher who made a difference in your life
- Give someone a book your think that they would like
- Stop someone from talking meanly about someone else
- Remember to be kind to yourself as well!
